Charlotte and Rhys' wedding
Documentary wedding photography
of Charlotte and Rhys at Llechwen Hall, July 11th.
Llechwen Hall was the location for my very first wedding some years ago, and since then I have covered weddings for a number of couples who were connected to that first wedding one way or another. That's just one of the great quirks of this job; is when people see how I work at weddings, and how different (i like to think so anyway) my style is, and see the results afterwards, they generally try to track me down and hire me for their own wedding years later.
After been given a time for when the bridal preps are required, I generally give myself an extra hour to arrive at the venue, just in case there's an accident or traffic on the way or something.
I started the day as usual with some bridal prep shots in the hotel room, where the mother of the bride and bridesmaids were, and a bit later on flowers girls also appeared on the scene. It's here where I just hang back and try to capture any natural moment that occurs, while trying not to get in anyone's way.
After so many years of doing this job, I find that I can anticipate most things that will happen, for example in one of my favorite photo's from this wedding where a flower girl looks our of the hotel window during preps, I position myself close to the TV on the wall hoping to get some reflection to create a more interesting point of view, and it worked out that the bride and mother of the bride also joined in to see what was what.
I have to say that this is one of my favorite weddings I've done, in terms of the variety of different situations and moments' captured, remembering that each individual image has a story to tell, and hopefully I've captured them in such a way that people can be almost transported back instantly, and laugh or cry, or both.
