Jessica and Matthew's wedding
Documentary wedding photography
of Jessica and Matthew at The Parc Hotel (Thistle) on July 18th
The bridal preparations for Jessica and Matthew's wedding started early, with the sun still pretty low in the sky, giving some very generous light and flare through the French doors. I always enjoy teaming up with the sun to create interesting shots.
From the bridal preparations I went on to photograph the dress and shoes upstairs. There weren't that many options where to place the dress, which is fine as I can then just rely on using light to make the shot as interesting as possible, and sometimes that's all you need ..... the interesting light.
After photographing the wedding dress, It was a case of just roaming and documenting natural occurrences, and waiting for moments to unfold naturally. In this case it was the bride brushing her teeth, bridesmaids getting ready, and to what I think is the main part of the preparations; the Father seeing the bride for the first time in her dress. It was a privilege to witness and document the special moment when the bride hugged her father at the bottom of the stairs.
During the ceremony at St Peter's Church, Cardiff I decided to keep my distance, as sometimes I feel, especially in older, large churches there's a certain etiquette and order in the atmosphere which I try my best to respect. In these cases I will use a different lens, allowing me to get closer while staying back.
Every wedding has a different atmosphere, and with this wedding it really was an emotional one, with a special bond between the bride and her father, as well as with the groom of course. Otherwise lots of emotional moments captured throughout the whole day, especially during the speeches at the reception.
