Dan and Paula's wedding

Documentary wedding photography of Dan and Paula, at Oxwich Bay Hotel, Swansea.

I haven't documented many weddings (as yet) near a beach, so when Dan and Paula told me their wedding was at Oxwich Bay Hotel, which was almost literally on the beach, I was quite excited to be frank. Ok, yes, I am excited to document every wedding, but especially this one. I arrived especially early at this location, as where there's a beech, there's scope for more ideas etc, so I needed more time to look around. That being said, as adocumentary Wedding Photographermy job involves documenting the day as it happens, from beginning to end, so I don't get the chance to plan things or stage things, and in any case, staging is the last thing I would want to do. I try to keep my weddings as close to a true story as possible, unless the couple ask me during the day for one or twoformal shots, in which case I'm happy to do, if there is time of course.
As of my usual strategy, and being early, I asked at the front desk where was the ceremony being held, and also the reception, so as to get some shots of the details of the rooms before they are filled with guests. If you know how long the bride (usually) and groom (in this case) have taken to prepare the rooms, then you realize how important it is to document, especially the small details, which in many cases are personal to them.
Finally, it was time to knock on the door of the bride's room to get those ever important bridal prep shots. Being my first time meeting the bride in this case, it sure was nice to be introduced, as face book profile pictures can change over time, as we all know. After being introduced, and getting the shots I needed of the dress and shoes, I asked where the groom was getting ready and said that I would be back in time for documenting dressing the bride, and to let me know when you're ready for me to do so. Every bride feels differently to at which point they are comfortable with me photographing them dressing. Or in some cases it just happens, and I just snap away.
The ceremony went without a hitch, so to speak, after which, a receiving line was started, and my chance to make interesting shots out of a line of people with a long green hedge, as seen in the images below.
So without getting into too much detail about the whole day, I can safely say that I personally had a wonderful experience on the glorious California looking setting (from what I've seen in movies anyway) that it was, and the wonderfully moody marquee reception made all the difference.

Hope you enjoy my story, thank you, and please share.
